First Jump Course SoloIf you are taking our First Jump Course Solo, plan on spending the whole day at the school. Courses usually start at 9:00 A.M. weekend mornings bring a hat, sunscreen, loose fitting clothing for hot or cool weather. Wear shoes that offer good ankle support. Midweek classes for groups can be arranged by appointment. The course starts off with registration and reading, followed by detailed theory and practical exercises of all components of the jump. Drop Zone OrientationIn this portion of the course you will be given a tour of the facility and be familiarized with operational procedures of the parachute school. Rules and regulations as well as safety concerns will be addressed. EquipmentIn the equipment section we will teach you everything you need to know to operate a parachute system. We will explain to you how a parachute opens and identify the main components and their functions. The Harness and its related instruments will be demonstrated as well. Aircraft ProceduresThis section deals with flight operations. Safety procedures in and around the aircraft will be discussed. You will practice boarding the aircraft and learn seating arrangements for the climb to altitude. Exit Procedures .JUMP RUN! Practical drill on procedures leading up to exit, including pilot chute extraction, climb out, and Freefall body position. GO!!!You let go of the strut and fall as your parachute opens within 6-8 seconds! Once your parachute is under control your ground instructor will assist you via radio with your flight to the landing area for a nice soft landing. Parachute OpeningsWe will show you how a parachute opens and teach you how to gain control of it. The parachute steering system will be demonstrated as well as speed control In-flight NavigationIn this section you’ll learn how to steer your parachute to the landing area. How your descent is affected by the wind speed and direction will be discussed as well as a practical excersize on steering the parachute. LandingsYou will learn to set up a landing pattern and fly your parachute to the landing area where you put on the brakes for a nice soft landing. Once you’ve taken the course, the staff will assist you with donning your equipment. You will receive 3 safety inspections prior to boarding the aircraft with your Jumpmaster. You will enjoy a 15 minute aerial tour of the area surrounding the drop zone as you climb to 3000 feet above the ground. At jump altitude your Instructor will extract your pilot chute and assist you with you climb out to the strut.
After your first jump, every jump you make you progress towards freefall. Usually within 5 to 10 jumps you are activating your own main parachute and learning how to pack. Freefall delays increase with the number of jumps you make and within 50 jumps you will be riding up to 12,000 feet and experiencing sixty seconds of freefall hitting speeds up to 500 Km/h. |
